Midday Movement Series

Class description:
We begin with locating ourselves and one another through tactile, centering, and improvisational practices before exploring phrase work and an expansive combination. We dedicate considerable time to feed our improvisational practice. We dig into sensation, visualization, states of being, and memory to collaborate with energy in the space, feel into our truth, and play more - activating our individual and collective mind, body, and spirit. The phrase work is focused on building strength and fluidity of movement, where you will be invited to move in and out of the floor, ride waves of momentum, and investigate the nuances of ease and effort. The combination will be a culmination of our research during class, leaving room for the joyful unexpected. This class is considered an intermediate-advanced level where you are encouraged to dance generously for yourself and for each other.

This class is deeply embedded in Kathleen Hermesdorf’s teaching legacy and draws from a vast lineage of experimental artists from the Bay Area and beyond.
